Blenheim Palace & Avebury Stone Circles Transfer

An unusual pairing — Blenheim Palace's Baroque grandeur alongside the prehistoric standing stones of Avebury, one of Britain's largest Neolithic stone circles and a quieter alternative to Stonehenge. This is a private transfer with stops rather than a fully guided tour, so you explore each site at your own pace with your driver waiting. Departs from Southampton, with the two sites roughly bookending the drive. Good for travelers who've already seen Stonehenge and want a walkable stone circle instead.

Half-dayFrom Oxford

Oxford, Woodstock & Blenheim Half-Day Tour

A half-day option for travelers short on time, combining a walk through Woodstock — the small market town Blenheim Palace sits beside — with entry to the Palace itself. Your guide points out the Bear Hotel and Woodstock's Georgian townhouses before heading into the Palace grounds, keeping the whole outing to around four to five hours from Oxford. A reasonable middle ground between a quick admission-only ticket and a full-day Cotswolds coach trip. Confirm inclusions at booking.

About Blenheim Palace

Baroque Grandeur, Royal Gift, Family Home

Blenheim Palace was built between 1705 and 1722 as a gift from Queen Anne to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, following his victory at the Battle of Blenheim. Designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in the English Baroque style, it remains the only country house in England to hold the title "palace" without belonging to the Royal Family or the Church. Join us for a look at the rooms, gardens, and grounds that make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History

Completed in 1722 after 17 years of construction, the Palace has passed through 12 generations of the Marlborough family. Sir Winston Churchill was born here in 1874. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Read the full history →

Access

Tickets must be booked online in advance — there is no walk-up ticket window, and weekend and summer dates sell out. Pre-booking removes the wait and guarantees your date. See the full visiting guide →

Architecture & Layout
